Note: The 11 pages making up this topic may take quite a bit longer than other pages before they appear on your screen in completed form. Please be sure you wait long enough for the entire page to load before moving to another page.

Backgrounds to pages can be either

  • a solid color (including black, white, or gray)
  • a texture, or
  • a picture or drawing.

Solid color backgrounds for text are examined in the chapter on Color <.

In what follows, we will look at both textures and pictures as backgrounds.

Textures can be used as backgrounds to text to introduce variety into your pages. Although text on a solid-color background is undoubtedly easy to read and effective, from time to time you may want to "jazz up" your displays somewhat, and textured backgrounds can do that.
