Overall, research on the effects of dynamic visuals is very limited, unlike research pertaining to static visuals, which encompasses many more studies and dozens of treatment conditions. Generally speaking, there is little consensus reached among existing studies.

It isn't a simple matter of saying that animation is a good or bad tool to use in instruction: researchers > report positive effects * of animation in roughly equal numbers to negative effects *. We know very little about the effect of dynamic visual displays in student learning that we can state with a high degree of confidence, but these are some tentative suggestions we can offer, and some promising leads well worth examination.
